Daily Devotionals and Prayer Books

I ask and get asked often about devotionals. I love a good daily devotional and a powerful prayer book even more. If you know me well I talk A LOT about several of these books. I have used them for years – I mean prayer never goes out of style!

For me I tend to get stuck with how and what I need to be praying for. These devotionals and books provide such a great foundation. You just integrate them with what you already pray for.

THE POWER OF A PRAYING SERIES by Stormie Omartian

I LOVE LOVE LOVE these books! There is The Power of a Praying Wife, The Power of a Praying Husband and The Power of a Praying Parent. I believe these all come in the book and prayer book option. The regular book offers a short story and then the prayer and several scriptures at the end. The prayer book is a very quick and short prayer with one scripture. They are both great, however I prefer the regular book. It’s just more in depth and gives you a ton more scripture.

ARISE MY DARLING by Julie King

My Mom passed this one on to me. This is a very unique devotional. It’s a 31-day devotional journey. It incorporates a story, a song, the devotional and then a reflection page where you are encouraged to journal. Arise My Darling is designed as a fast and praying devotional. I just use it as a daily devotional. I am only about half way through and am really enjoying it. It’s beautifully written and the journal portion is really great, it helps me to really clear my mind and get my thoughts organized.

THE PRAYER OF JABEZ by Bruce Wilkerson

I found this little gem a few years ago. I am not totally sure how or where or who gave me this little book. It’s a book about breaking through to a blessed life. Goes over the story of Jabez and how he prayed a brief but daring prayer and how it contains the key to a life of extraordinary favor with God. The Prayer of Jabez is a timeless prayer, the author takes readers to 1 Chronicles 4:10 to discover how they can release God’s miraculous power and experience the blessings God. The life of Jabez, one of the Bible’s most overlooked heroes of the faith, bursts from unbroken pages of genealogies. This fourpart prayer brings him an extraordinary measure of divine favor, anointing, and protection.

It also comes in the Bible Study version. It just helps you dig deeper and learn more about what you are praying and asking for. Highly recommend both!

I HEAR HIS WHISPER by Brian Simmons

This is my all time favorite devotional. It is SO beautifully written. If you are looking for a short and sweet highly encouraging devo this is my recommendation. I Hear His Whisper offers 52 devotions and messages of love that were given to the author personally but we can use as an application into our own lives. I have since passed along to my husband. I just found out there is a volume 2 which I cannot wait to read. It only takes about 5 minutes a day! Do it! It will change your life!
